FILIPA EKEROTH

Filipa is an independent film editor.

Born and raised in Portugal, daughter to a Swedish mother, Filipa has spent her life moving between cultures. It’s through this lens of diversity — in language, experience, and perspective — that she sees the world: full of colours and shapes. Diversity lies at the heart of her creativity.

She studied Film in Paris and Stockholm, and has since worked in post-production across Cape Town and Berlin, where she currently lives.

Filipa is especially drawn to documentaries and films with a poetic sensibility — work that leaves space for emotion, rhythm, and quiet observation. She’s fascinated by the power of editing to shape meaning — through structure, contrast, and what’s left unsaid.

In the editing room, she’s collaborative, curious, and always open to exploring different directions until the story feels right. Her approach is intuitive and emotionally driven, shaped by a deep interest in the characters and the subtle dynamics behind each scene. Brainstorming, experimenting, and diving into the emotional world of a film are some of her favourite parts of the process. She’s easy to work with — no big ego, just a lot of care and attention.

For her, editing is mostly about feeling. The rules are few. And the moments when a cut goes unnoticed — but still shifts everything — are the ones that make her smile.
